American citizen Danny Lavone Burch, who was abducted by the rebel Houthi group in 2017 while working as an engineer at a Yemeni oil company, has been reunited with his family, President Trump announced via Twitter and the State Department confirmed.
Between the lines: A State Department official told Axios that assistance from the United Arab Emirates was "crucial" to securing his release. At the time of Burch's abduction, the U.S. had warned U.S. citizens against traveling to Yemen, as it had limited ability to help Americans since embassy operations were suspended in 2015.
