Abdoulaye Doucoure reacts to dream Everton debut and reveals 'main goal' for season

Abdoulaye Doucoure has described his Everton debut against Tottenham as a ’dream’ as the Blues collected all three points in the capital.

The Blues confirmed the signing of the 27-year-old midfielder last week, with Doucoure putting pen to paper on a three-year-deal.

Everton have also included the option of a fourth year in the agreement which has brought him from Vicarage Road.

Marco Silva made two offers for Doucoure last summer but Watford turned down the approach with Everton prepared to pay around £36m for the French midfielder.

That was despite Doucoure wanting to make the switch to Goodison but the Hornets refused to sell.

Fellow new signings Allan and James Rodriguez also started at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Dominic Calvert-Lewin's brilliant second half header ensured the Blues claimed a 1-0 win.

And speaking after the game, Doucoure told Sky Sports :  “It’s a dream start for all of us. We played very well today. The week was brilliant, the manager was focused on the game and we are very happy to have the win in the end.

“I’ve trained only a few times with the team, but I keep my shape to be ready for the game.

“I’m very happy that I have a good physical shape. The manager put his trust in me, and I need to give him back that trust on the pitch.

“They are great players. Signing James and Allan is a big bonus for us. We need to continue this way and achieve good things this season.

“The club wants to go to Europe - that’s the main goal this season. It’s a great win against a big team.”
