In another devastating blow to Australian television, it’s been reported that ABC’s iconic current affairs show Q+A is set to be getting the axe.
After 17 seasons and more than 500 episodes, the Sydney Morning Herald reported that “sources close to the decision” have confirmed that ABC will be pulling the plug on the beloved news show.
Q+A currently went on break back in May and was scheduled to return for August. However, it’s been reported that management decided to discontinue the show altogether.
According to The Guardian, ABC’s managing director, Hugh Marks, is expected to announce the decision on Wednesday morning, alongside a “new round of redundancies”.

At the time of writing, ABC has not issued a statement regarding Q+A‘s position in its programming.
The news comes shortly after Network 10 confirmed that it would be axing news program The Project after almost 16 years on air. On Monday, the network confirmed that the show had been cancelled after it revised its early evening program schedule for later this month.
“As a result of the changes, The Project will air for the last time on Friday, June 27, ending an incredible run of almost 16 years and more than 4,500 episodes,” Network 10 said in a statement.
“The recipient of 11 TV WEEK Logie awards and one Walkley award, The Project led the way with thought-provoking and unique conversations on primetime television covering a myriad of topics including marriage equality, animal welfare, disability awareness, NDIS, and domestic and family violence.
“The show has successfully balanced humour and heart with poignant discussions about current affairs and celebrity interviews that had the whole country, and sometimes the world, talking. ”

Shortly after the announcement was made, The Project co-host Sarah Harris cracked a joke to fans, urging them to “keep an eye out for [her] OnlyFans page”.
“I’ve had a blast, [but] it’s time for me to take a breath and spend some time with my boys… Keep an eye out for my OnlyFans Page,” she penned in a statement that was shared to The Project‘s IG statement.
“The Project kicked down the door of how news could be done,” The Project co-host Waleed Aly shared.
As for Q+A, the show has been on ABC for almost 17 years, kicking off its run on the roster back in 2008. One of my favourite things about the show is definitely the thought-provoking discussions it would birth in the comments sections of its social media cut downs.
And I also frothed the occasional Auspol grillings!
Q+A is hosted by Patricia Karvelas, who took over the program back in 2023 from Stan Grant.
