ABC News correspondent Kaylee Hartung has tested positive for coronavirus and chronicled her experience with the illness on "Good Morning America."
Speaking from Los Angeles, where she was quarantined, Hartung said she first developed symptoms four days after returning from Seattle, where she had covered the initial coronavirus outbreak in the United States.
"This virus was something that really knocked me off my feet for a day, but other than that, any of the lingering symptoms, any other time of my life, was something I would've just tried to push through," Hartung said Wednesday on "Good Morning America" via a livestream video from her home.
She said the symptoms began last week with a runny nose, which she initially thought was due to allergies, but a day later she could tell she was dealing with something more serious.
"I was fatigued," Hartung told "GMA" anchor Robin Roberts. "I was not looking forward to getting out of bed. I had a headache just right between the eyes. I was congested. I had body aches in places I wasn't used to having them. My lower back was really hurting, but what was notable to me was that I wasn't having the symptoms that were being so closely associated with coronavirus."
Hartung, 34, said she didn't experience a dry cough, shortness of breath or chest pressure.
She's unsure of who she came into contact with that had the virus, but was urged by a health professional to get tested because she had been covering the outbreak in Seattle.
Hartung said she's feeling much better now and has been advised to quarantine herself for 14 days, beginning with when the symptoms ramped up. She stressed the importance of social distancing and the necessity for others to self-isolate as well.
