ABC celebrates New Year's Eve at Woodford

New Year's Eve kicked off with some incredible grooves at the ABC's annual national broadcast from the Woodford Folk Festival.

Presenter Jasmin Midgley hosted a star-filled two-hour program, showcasing some amazing acts and speakers including award winning singer-song writer Marlon Williams, Australian rock legend and activist Peter Garrett, and free-loving citizen of the world Michael Franti.

Festival founder and director Bill Hauritz began the show with a bit of advice for people new to Woodford.

"Bring gumboots, a handkerchief, bring an open mind and come prepared to step into the poster ... be absorbed by the festival," he said.

The six-day event is the largest gathering of artists and musicians in Australia with almost 2,500 performers this year and 120,000 visitors attending.
