ABC cancels 'Roseanne' following star's racially charged comments

ABC has canceled its successful "Roseanne" revival following racially charged tweets written by its star, Roseanne Barr.

"Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show," said Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment, in a statement on Tuesday.

Barr's co-star Sara Gilbert, who also co-hosts CBS talk-show "The Talk," also addressed the flap on Tuesday shortly after consulting producer Wanda Sykes announced her departure from the show.

Gilbert also called Barr's comments "abhorrent."

"Roseanne's recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show," she wrote. "I am disappointed in her actions to say the least."

Gilbert added that the situation is "incredibly sad and difficult for all of us."

"We've created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love _ one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member," Gilbert added.
