Abbott Elementary character takes hilarious dig at Emmy-winning actor

Abbott Elementary

In the world of television sitcoms, Abbott Elementary has been making waves with its hilarious and relatable storylines. And in the upcoming third season, the show doesn't shy away from poking fun at real-life events and rivalries.

One particular moment in the new trailer for the season caught the attention of fans. Janelle James' character, Ava Coleman, takes a hilarious dig at Tyler James Williams' character, Gregory Eddie. The scene unfolds as Ava reveals her summer spent at Harvard University, learning the ropes of being a principal. To the dismay of the school's staff, Ava decides to install security cameras all over the school.

In an attempt to change Ava's mind, the teachers recruit Gregory, knowing that Ava has always found him attractive. Gregory, played by the handsome and talented Jeremy Allen White, tries to win Ava over by flexing his muscles in her office doorway. However, Ava shuts down his advances with a witty remark, 'Here's a rule. Put your arms away, Jeremy Allen Black.'

The joke carries a funny real-life connection as White's hit series, The Bear, recently won several awards at the 2023 Emmys and 2024 Golden Globes. The Bear, a comedy series available on FX on Hulu, took home the prestigious best comedy series awards at both events. Additionally, White himself won two best actor in a comedy series trophies for his exceptional performance.

During his acceptance speech at the Emmys, White expressed his gratitude and pride, acknowledging the incredible work of the show's creator, Christopher Storer, and producer Joanna Calo. He also thanked his parents for their unwavering support and gave a special shout-out to his daughters, Ezer and Dolores.

While The Bear dominated the awards season, Abbott Elementary also received recognition. Quinta Brunson, who stars in the series, earned nominations for best actress in a comedy series at both the Emmys and Golden Globes. Williams, along with Sheryl Lee Ralph and Janelle James, received nominations in the supporting actor and actress categories respectively.

In a historic moment, Brunson took home the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, becoming the first Black actress to win in the category in over 40 years. In her acceptance speech, she expressed her love for comedy and gratitude for being able to live her dream.

Williams had previously won the Best Supporting Actor - Television award for his role on Abbott Elementary at the Golden Globes, where he emphasized the importance of stories like Gregory Eddie's and the need for their representation in the industry.

With its clever humor and talented cast, Abbott Elementary continues to captivate audiences. Season 3 is set to premiere on ABC with a supersized episode on Wednesday, February 7th, at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can't wait to see what comedic hijinks the staff of Abbott Elementary will get up to next.
