Abbey Vale aiming for ninth successive South of Scotland League win against Wigtown & Bladnoch

Abbey Vale are aiming to make it nine South of Scotland League wins in a row on Saturday.

The Maryfield Park side are currently top of the table after winning all eight of their league games so far, giving them a three point gap over nearest challengers Threave Rovers.

The two sides are due to meet in Castle Douglas on Wednesday night but Vale co-manager Allan Clark currently has his sights set on Saturday’s trip to Wigtown and Bladnoch.

He said: “We’re just taking it one game at a time at the moment.

“We all know what the players are capable of, just some times it can be getting them to do it!

“Having said we’re taking it one game at a time, we definitely want to get three points ahead of the next game against Threave the week after.

“We know it will be tough down there and it’s been moved to a two o’clock kick-off as we have a race night, which I think will make one of our players unavailable.”

Vale kept up their perfect record with a thumping 9-1 win over Dumfries YMCA on Saturday.

Clark and Frazer Brolls were missing, meaning coaches Ewan Brolls and Calum Park took charge.

And they saw the side into a four goal lead. Dylan Cairnie scoring the opener before Robbie Ferguson got his first goal for the club and Steven Couper bagged a brace.

The YM pulled one back through Ben Gillon but Ben Irving struck twice before the break to give Vale a 6-1 advantage at half-time.

Cairnie scored his second a minute into the second half and completed his hat-trick in the 76th minute before sub Finlay Brown rounded things off with his first Vale goal.

Clark said: “We had spoken to them about it at training on the Tuesday night about what was required and they certainly did that.

“The three points were the main thing and it gave our goal difference a boost .”
