President Mahmoud Abbas said that the Palestinian leadership would resort to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to face the decisions of US President Donald Trump against the Palestinian people on the issue of Jerusalem, and would go to the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Israel's practices.
Abbas stressed that the leadership would resort to the international courts after his expected speech on September 27 at the United Nations.
“We will go to the United Nations to confront the world with the issues that our people are suffering from,” he said, adding: “The Central Council will convene upon my return from the United Nations and will be informed of everything we have seen and heard. The final decision will be for the Council.”
The Palestinian president noted that issues, which would be addressed, include the Israeli decision to demolish Al-Khan Al-Ahmar Bedouin village east of Jerusalem and the status of Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
He also stressed that the Palestinian leadership was studying the means to resort to the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice on the current developments at Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Abbas plans to declare a Palestinian state under the occupation, breaking the Oslo agreement, in addition to suspending the recognition of Israel.
His steps come amid intense anger and despair over the possibility of making peace under the current US administration and the Israeli government.
In recent statements, Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat said addressing the US and Israel: “When everything collapses, you will pay the price and we will all meet in hell, in the fire of violence.”
Over the past few weeks, the US administration has taken a series of financial decisions to repress the Palestinian Authority, mainly closing the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) office in Washington, halting its contribution to UNRWA, cutting aid to occupied East Jerusalem hospitals and stopping the support of the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
The PLO said that these steps were a practical preparation for the US “deal of the century”, which aims at removing Jerusalem, the refugees and the settlements from the negotiation table.
