Abbas Receives Izetbegovic, Calls on Washington to Review Its Decisions

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas slammed Wednesday the United States, describing it as “a biased mediator” and therefore “not qualified to sponsor the (peace) negotiations.”

In a joint press conference with Bosnian President Bakir Izetbegovic in Ramallah, Abbas warned that the US decisions against Jerusalem and the Palestinian refugees are destructive to the peace process in the Middle East, demanding it to reconsider these decisions.

He reiterated the call he had made at the UN Security Council in February for holding an international peace conference and a multilateral mechanism to oversee the peace process and negotiations with a goal to achieve the two-state solution.

Abbas' plan was based on implementing the two-state solution in accordance with the 1967 borders and aimed at giving the Palestinian people freedom and independence with East Jerusalem as their capital.

Abbas also slammed Israel "for its hostile aggression and its settlement activities that always represent an obstacle before achieving peace."

"These practices are clearly violating the international laws," he added.

He briefed Izetbegovic on the latest developments on ground and the most recent illegal laws issued by Israel, especially the racist “Nation-State Law”, which he said his country and the whole world have rejected .

Izetbegovic arrived in Ramallah on Wednesday and was received by Abbas.

The visiting president said his government also supports holding an international peace conference, stressing that only negotiations could lead to peace and resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

"We back the efforts on holding an international peace conference that reaches a fair and everlasting solution based on the implementation of the international resolutions," he said.

"Both peoples have the right to live in peace and security, and all is done only through the vision of a two-state solution,” he noted.

“Peace and stability are achieved if they are based on justice, and they must be balanced to bring peace to the region, and this is important not only for the Palestinians but for the whole world."

He said his country had supported and voted in favor of the UN resolution to provide international protection for Palestinian civilians and called in multiple statements to end the violence and start dialogue.

The Bosnian leader said he wanted to visit Palestine and Jerusalem for the last time as president of Bosnia before his term expires next month.
