ABBA tipped for comeback as Sweden brings home Eurovision after success in UK

Swedish Eurovision winners ABBA could be set to reform next year as the Eurovision Song Contest takes place in Sweden in 2024.

The European pop event will take place in Sweden after singer Loreen won it on Saturday night (13 May) after pipping Finland to take first place.

As the competition returns to Sweden 50 years after ABBA won with their single Waterloo, many savvy fans have worked out it could be the perfect opportunity for the foursome to regroup.

Fans are ecstatic over the idea of band members Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad reforming and potentially performing again.

A source told The Sun : "After Sweden won, people are going to be putting their Money, Money, Money on an ABBA reunion.

"They won Eurovision in Brighton in April 1974 and next year will be the 50th anniversary of that.

"Even if it’s their ABBA-tars performing a hologram show, fans are desperate for it."

However some sceptical fans have accused the Eurovision Song Contest of being "rigged" as they hinted at a "conspiracy" as Sweden will host the competition in time for the 50th anniversary of ABBA's win with Waterloo.

Writing on Twitter, one Eurovision viewer shared: "Look I'm not saying it's rigged but... Sweden winning the year before the anniversary of ABBA's win seems entirely too convenient to me."

Another shared their view as they wrote: "No way they rigged the entire thing so Sweden can host it on the 50 year anniv of ABBA's win bro. I'm SALTY".

"I'm not a conspiracy theorist but the idea that this was rigged so Sweden can host on the fiftieth anniversary of the Abba win makes lots of sense right now," said a third.

A fourth wrote: "This whole ABBA anniversary and Sweden winning seems a bit too coincidental to me idk."

Another added: "I'm loving the instant conspiracy theory that #EUROVISION2023 was rigged so that next year could be in Sweden for the 50th Anniversary of ABBA & Waterloo."

Singer Loreen won the pop contest held in Liverpool amassing 583 points with her performance of her song Tattoo, clinching the contest next year for Sweden. She pipped Finland to the post, who earned 526 points.

In 2012 she won the competition held in Baku, Azerbaijan for her performance of Euphoria.
