ABBA mourn death of beloved manager and ‘fifth member’

  • Görel Hanser, the longtime manager of Swedish pop group ABBA and affectionately known as their 'fifth member', has passed away at the age of 76 .
  • ABBA's members, Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, issued a statement expressing their “deepest sorrow” and calling the loss of their “most loved friend and closest colleague” immeasurable.
  • Hanser played a pivotal role in ABBA's career, starting as a secretary for Stig Anderson's publishing company before managing the band's record label connections, accompanying them on tours, and handling press relations.
  • She was instrumental in the band's 2018 reunion, being the one to share the initial behind-the-scenes photographs of the group back in the recording studio.
  • ABBA famously recorded the exclusive track “Sång Till Görel” for her 30th birthday in 1979, a rare collectable that paid tribute to her exceptional organisational skills and tireless dedication to the group.
