Abba Fever at Newcastle's Wylam Brewery is out to raise cheers all round

A night of Abba and beer already sounds a winning combination but knowing it's being held in the name of a late local hero adds hugely to its appeal.

The Abba Fever event planned for June no doubt will  attract crowds to Wylam Brewery in Newcastle where the party is out to raise funds for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation , the cancer research charity set up by the football legend just months before his death from the disease in 2009.

Also set to benefit from its fund-raising target of £5,000 will be the Graham Wylie Foundation whose local worthy causes include the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The two charities have been picked by event organiser Heather Scott in memory of her father David Scott and she is holding Abba Fever in his memory.

Wylam Brewery award

Heather, a self-employed local business owner who runs marketing consultancy Winning Results in Retail, has raised more than £10,000 for charity over the years, including by doing the Great North Run, Kielder Marathon and last year's London Marathon.

It was during a client meeting at the brewery, which is based in the Palace of Arts in Exhibition Park, that she came up with the idea that - instead of another challenge which people prove willing to sponsor for no return - a fund-raiser "evening of good food; good music in an exciting venue with dancing" would prove a winner on both accounts.

And the result is her upcoming Abba-tastic night, featuring tribute band Abba Fever, which is inviting all Dancing Queens to join the fun at the brewery on June 27.

It will run from 7pm to midnight and tickets cost £25 (£1.79 with fee) which includes a £10 donation to charity plus a drink upon arrival - either prosecco or Wylam beer - as well as street food.

There also will be a charity raffle on the night with prizes donated from local businesses, including Hilton Newcastle Gateshead; SD Events; Utilita Arena; Close House and the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation itself.
