Abandoned kayak in Millisle sparks search for owner on Ards Peninsula

The Coastguard has been searching areas of the Ards Peninsula after a kayak was found abandoned on rocks at Millisle .

The green and black inflatable was landed at 11am.

Officers discovered a pair of mismatched Wellington boots and believe an oar had also been with the vessel.

A life boat was tasked and units on foot searched beaches and rocks to try to locate the owner.

The search has been stood down and the Coastguard have issued an appeal for the owner of the kayak to come forward.

A spokesperson for the Belfast Coastguard said: "We tasked Bangor Coastguard Rescue Team and K9 Search & Rescue NI as well as requesting the launch of Donaghadee Lifeboat to conduct searches and make enquiries. Thorough searches have been complete and units stood down.

"At this time the owner has not been located. If you recognise this kayak please get in touch so we can get it back to you."

If you own the kayak or know who does, you can click here to contact the Coastguard.
