Abandoned Edinburgh waterfront building could be turned into private hospital

An empty Edinburgh building near a huge new housing development site could be turned into a private hospital.

Plans have been lodged to transform the vacant unit at 3 Waterfront Broadway, Granton, into a surgery, with the applicant - Quaba Edinburgh Ltd - specialising in plastic surgery. However, the plans do not state whether or not the building in question would also operate as a plastic surgery clinic.

The company wish to name the building 'Waterfront Private Hospital' although it is unclear if the surgery is linked to the huge regeneration of Granton, with over 3,000 planned for the site.

As well as thousands of new homes, healthcare facilities, a new school and the regeneration of the Granton gasholder are all among the council's plans.

The building, next to Morrison's, has undergone several changes in the last decade, with multiple former uses including a restaurant, gym and dentist surgery.

The unit is currently listed for rent on via Ryden, with an under offer notice on their site. Describing the interior and location of the building, they say: "The subjects provide ground and first floor accommodation. The subjects have a Class three (restaurant) consent, but other uses will be considered.

"The unit, with curved frontage, benefits from a stunning view of the Forth Estuary is provided in shell condition with service pick ups for an ingoing tenant's fit-out."

It is also located next door to the waterfront Pure Gym and just minutes from the former Granton Railway Station which is set to be restored as part of the Granton Waterfront regeneration.
