Edinburgh is set for a unique Chinese restaurant using ingredients grown locally.
The City of Edinburgh Council validated the proposal to create the new Dragon Fly restaurant at Lauriston Place in Tollcross.
The property could accommodate around 60 to 80 covers per sitting and is situated on the east side of the junction between Lauriston Place, Home Street, Early Grey Street, and Brougham Street.

The restaurant will serve authentic, home-made Chinese cuisine and the key concept is to use fresh local ingredients, including vegetables grown on land to be leased from Edinburgh council.
On the planning application Dragon Fly say they will also create employment opportunities locally in Tollcross and will be running classes for locals.
A spokesperson said: “There is also a plan to arrange workshops for hand-made pastry, at the specific request of the Chichester College Group, who have organised a Chinese Culinary Arts course as a joint venture with the Chinese government as part of the “One Belt One Road” initiative.
“The restaurant is proposed to have an ancillary takeaway function, not a takeaway, but an online/telephone order and collection service, and will create up to 10 employment opportunities.”
The building on Lauriston Street comprises a five-storey terraced property on a busy thoroughfare and is adjacent to a prominent intersection. The shopfront is set back from the street slightly within a sheltered arcade but the property is not a listed building and is not located within a Conservation Area.
It was previously used as office premises but has not been occupied for some time.
The City of Edinburgh Council are expected to make a decision on the planning application in the coming weeks.
