A former Edinburgh post office in Morningside could be turned into a boutique hotel and bar, Edinburgh Live can reveal
Although plans have yet to be submitted, local councillors have been consulted on the future use of 265 Morningside Road with developers considering trying to have two additional floors added to the building.
The former post office building has had many suggested uses with numerous plans being lodged since its closure - including in 2021 when a four-storey building with 11 apartments was refused.

It is understood that the new owners of the building could have a bar and restaurant on the ground floor, serving locally sourced food, wines and craft beers.
And if successful, it will not be the only new hotel in the area. The Canny Man's pub, also on Morningside Road, have proposed plans to build a four-storey, hotel with 14 rooms.
In 2019, the post office moved from the bottom of Morningside Road to its new location at 28–30 which used to be a school uniform shop.
Morningside Tory councillor Marie-Clair Munro met developers and said: “They are hoping to put a small boutique hotel with a bar and restaurant serving locally sourced food, fine wines and craft beer at ground level and perhaps two floors above.
“The previous developers saw objections to a four-storey building which would be over-sized in height in comparison to the neighbourhood building.
“This would have caused overlooking and overshadowing of neighbouring properties, with the loss of privacy, sunlight, and damage to trees. It is my understanding the new owners do not wish to do this.”

A spokesperson for the developer, Pentlands Investments, said: “We are at the early stages of research to see whither we develop in line with the planning permission already granted or if we make a new application.
“Currently, we have had some meetings with local councillors and the community council to get feedback and are now working on the financial viability of changing the project.”
