Abandoned Edinburgh city centre shop set to become fancy Danish furniture store

An abandoned Edinburgh city centre shop could become a fancy Danish furniture store.

The empty unit, at 106 George Street, was formerly a Starbucks but has been vacant for several years. Nordic Living, who already own a furniture store in the Bruntsfield area, have earmarked the building as a possible expansion project.

The building is category B-listed and is also in both a Conservation Area and World Heritage site and pictures taken from within the property show it completely stripped back to the barebones.

If the plans are successful, the dark matte shopfront would be retained to tie in with the company's preferred decorative colour. There would also be new signage erected on Castle Street and George Street as well as a fixed hanging sign.

Nordic Living by Biehl is a family run business that first opened in Bruntsfield five years ago. Having moved from Copenhagen in 2018, the Kleberg family wanted to bring true Nordic style to the capital.

Among items being sold on the premises is furniture from renowned designers as well as lifestyle and interior accessories from newer brands. A segment from the company's website says they have "created a welcoming, friendly and truly inspiring showroom where we invite our customers to browse and shop."
