Abandoned cars still roof-deep in snow in scene 'like the road to Narnia'

Abandoned cars remain roof-deep in snow in a scene likened to "the road to Narnia".

Several cars are still stuck on a lane off Birk Brow, near Guisborough, North Yorkshire, after heavy snowfalls last week made the road impassable.

And while many around the country are now enjoying spring-like weather and double-figure temperatures, it could be a while before the drivers of these vehicles are able to dig their vehicles out.

Much of Teesside has thawed but some parts are still buried under several feet of snow, Gazette Live reports.

Steve Reily and his dog Bella discovered the snowed-in vehicles while out walking on Monday.

"The snow drifts have caught the cars," he said.

"This is just a few hundred yards from Birk Brow.

"One is a taxi, so I wonder did it have a vulnerable person as a passenger. It's like the road to Narnia."

Brits are set to enjoy spring-like sunshine in above-average temperatures - just days after record lows brought by the "Beast from the East Two".

Parts of the UK could see above-average seasonal temperatures of up to 17C (63F), days after the country endured freezing conditions, snow and record lows.

The Met Office is expecting "exceptionally" mild weather on Saturday, after some showery weather today, with wind warnings in place for the north west of Scotland.

The highest temperatures are expected in the South East but other parts of the UK could be much warmer than the average maximum for the UK in February, which is 6.64C (43.9F), according to the Met Office.

Some of the biggest swings could be in Norwich, where temperatures could rise to around 13C having dropped below freezing last week as snow blanketed the country.
