Abandoned 30lb cat looking for loving owner to help her lose lockdown bulge

A fat cat abandoned by her cruel owner is in desperate need of a safe home to help her get healthy again.

The 29.5 pound cat, who had been dumped overnight, was discovered by members of staff at the ACCT Philly animal shelter in Hunting Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Staff put the "very sweet" overweight moggy, who they later named Lasagna, on a strict diet in a bid to see her walk and groom herself again after she weighed in at nearly four times the healthy 8lb weight of an average cat.

The shelter is finding it tough to find a loving owner who can "help her lose the #quarantine15 " - a nickname given to the 15-pounds many people say they have put on since the coronavirus lockdown first began.

One interested party even refused to adopt her because she was too tubby explained Sarah Barnett, director for development and communications at ACCT Philly.

She said: "A woman considered adopting Lasagna as she was here to adopt a cat but Lasagna was a lot larger than what she was looking for.

"She's very sweet and appears generally healthy, though her weight has made her stiff when she walks and also unable to properly groom herself.

"Obese cats can develop a lot of significant health issues, so she really needs a home where someone can help her loose the weight and be a healthy cat."

The rescue centre, which has suffered significant budget cuts recently, took to Twitter to share adorable pictures of the cat, which it says must find a suitable home soon.

It reads: "Poor Lasagna was abandoned in a dog crate at a whopping 29.5lbs. This chonky cat would love someone who can help her lose the #quarantine15 and become a healthy and happy cat."

Ms Barnett added: "If people are not able to adopt her but still want to help us, we had significant budget cuts of nearly $900,000, approximately £680,000, from the city to our contract, so financial contributions are very much appreciated.
