Abandoned 1950s Chester bungalow linked to 45 year old unsolved murder

An urban explorer has documented the derelict interior of an abandoned 1950s bungalow in Poulton linked to an infamous murder.

Daniel Sims, also known as BeardedReality, explores abandoned locations across the country and shares his exploits to YouTube.

Sims, from Huddersfield, claims that the bungalow in Poulton is linked to the unsolved murder of teenager Brenda Evans in 1977. Daniel says that the house, which he believes was home to 17-year-old Evans' relatives, was the last place she was seen alive.

Daniel, 33, began recording his adventures and posting them to YouTube in February 2019 and he told CheshireLive about the house.” The place itself has been abandoned for about ten or fifteen years I reckon”, he said.

"I can’t remember whether I just randomly discovered that one or if other explorers tipped me off. There were a bunch of tools, a big axe and a hammer. There was the piano, too, a Rushworth, I don’t think I’ve seen a Rushworth before. There were a lot of little treasures around the living room. The piano keys were on the couch.

"When we first entered we had to squeeze over the cabinets just to get into the property. It was a very strange layout, like someone, once upon a time, had started clearing it out and then just left it." Daniel describes his hobby as "highly fun and very addicting."

And when asked if he ever gets into trouble for what he does, he said: "Not really. I stick within the guidelines of the law – and what I do is kind of a grey area anyway – but we’re not breaking the law. It is civil trespass, but there’s the key, it’s civil. If I was on a property and someone asked me to leave, and I refused, then that would be criminal because it’s aggravated trespass."

He added: "We don’t break into anywhere. There are some people that do that, but as people can see on mine, for example, I’ll even post places that I don’t get into because I just enjoy being around the buildings and exploring, seeing what’s there."

Daniel now plans to explore further afield: "We’re planning [to explore in] France, Belgium, Portugal, Spain, maybe Ukraine possibly."
