Aasu protest over members' arrest

DIBRUGARH: The All Assam Students' Union (Aasu) on Monday burnt the effigies of state agriculture minister and guardian minister of Dibrugarh district, Atul Bora, and Dibrugarh SP Shwetank Mishra in protest against the arrest of five of its members following a brawl during a college election.

The students' body also accused the police of forcefully entering the Aasu office in Dibrugarh. The Aasu members burnt the effigies at Chowkidinghee near their office.

"On Saturday, Dibrugarh SP Shwetank Mishra sent a police force to the Dibrugarh Aasu office and forcefully picked up our members without any reason. After that, the police behaved badly with them at the police station," said Aboni Gogoi, general secretary of the Dibrugarh district Aasu unit.
