Aaron Wan-Bissaka has handed Manchester United a transfer dilemma

With a deal for Daniel James secured Manchester United are now looking at strengthening other areas of their first-team squad.

The news over the past couple of days is that Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a player the club are genuinely interested in but his services would come at a significant cost.

M.E.N. Sport understand the club made an offer in the region of £40m for the 21-year-old but Crystal Palace's valuation is understood to be far higher, and so the bid was understandably rejected.

The news of a rejected bid represents a bit of a mixed bag for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he goes about his summer rebuild.

On the plus side there is positivity regarding the fact United have targeted a popular player and one who fully fits the criteria needed by the club in the summer transfer window. However, having been rebuffed they are now presented with a dilemma.

There is a clear disagreement between the two clubs over what Wan-Bissaka is actually worth. The versatile full-back might have been one of the standout youngsters of the past Premier League season but he still lacks the experience typically warranted for such a transfer fee.

It is something which the south London club recognise themselves, and with Palace under no pressure to sell they seem rather comfortable to hold out for a fee at the top end of their valuation.

It means United are in a peculiar predicament. They not only want Wan-Bissaka, but they want a versatile full-back in general. The issue is once again down to money, and the club must now contemplate whether to pursue the England youth international with an improved bid, or whether they should explore different avenues instead.

From the outside you can see both sides of the argument.

United's eagerness to make a bid clearly highlights the interest they have in the player, and even if he costs more than they envisaged surely he represents an investment worthwhile? After all this is an area in which the club clearly see the need for an improvement.

Yet on the other hand full-back still does not seem the glaring transfer issue which needs to be solved next, and while it seems simple to throw more money at the situation doing so could in-turn reduce the funds available when looking for a new central defender.

No matter the outcome, it needs to be one which Solskjaer fully backs himself. The Norwegian has already made his mark with the move for Wales international James but now he must weigh up the importance of signing someone like Wan-Bissaka.

United have the funds to complete their summer rebuild, the real dilemma comes with spending it wisely.
