Aaron Wan-Bissaka earns new Manchester United nickname

Aaron Wan-Bissaka's Crystal Palace nickname seems to have stuck with Manchester United already.

The new full back signing joined the Reds from Selhurst Park for a £45million fee last month (rising to £50million with add-ons) and took part in his first full today (Tuesday).

It was Wan-Bissaka's first day in action with his new teammates, following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad arrival in Perth, Australia. He had previously been allowed an extra day of rest after competing in the Under-21 European Championships with England.

But the nickname 'The Spider' has already been evident at United.

Wan-Bissaka revealed in his first United interview with MUTV last month that he'd earned the nickname during his time at Palace.

“'The Spider' is about the range and length of my legs when I'm lunging to tackle the ball," he said. "That's where the nickname comes from."

And it appears he has lived up to that nickname in his new surroundings already.

A video posted by United's official Twitter page captured Wan-Bissaka perform an inch-perfect tackle on teammate Juan Mata in training — with the club page referring to that nickname.

No defender made more successful tackles in last season's Premier League than Wan-Bissaka and the 21-year-old will look to translate the form that made him Palace's player of the year for 2018/19 into his United career. After Wan-Bissaka and fellow new signing Daniel James were settling in well, it seems he'd made a good early impression.
