Aaron Rodgers warns Green Bay Packers fans they need 'patience' over 'new Davante Adams'

Aaron Rodgers has claimed that Green Bay Packers might already have their Davante Adams replacement on the current roster, despite a slow start to the season offensively, and has warned fans they need to be patient. The legendary quarterback is coming off the back of consecutive MVP winning seasons and despite beginning the season with an impressive 3-1 start, the offense has failed to live up to its usual high standards.

Whilst Rodgers has highlighted that he needs to play better himself, the loss of Adams has been noticeable. Adams has had Rodgers as his quarterback throughout his NFL career, but was traded this off-season, to re-join college teammate Derek Carr with the Las Vegas Raiders.

However, Rodgers feels like they already might have their replacement for the 29-year-old superstar wide receiver already on their team, and looks forward to seeing him blossom. That player he has been referring to, is second-round rookie Christian Watson.

Speaking on the Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers was full of praise for the rookie from South Dakota State, and believes he has a promising future in the league.

He said: "Look, I tell you, he's got special speed. He really does. He's got incredible stride length. When you watch some of the film back, it's similar to watching Davante his rookie year. You know there were games where I didn't give Davante a ton of looks, but you go back and watch the film, and you're thinking, 'Man, this guy is open often.'

"It's like that from time to time with Christian. There's a few routes, I mean not as much as Davante, I just think Davante was a little more polished route-runner as a rookie, but there are a few times where I might need to give him a second look even when things don't look great from the start because he does have that different type of speed.

"But we're finding ways to use him, I think, and again, we have to have patience."

In his first game, Watson was able to get behind the Minnesota Vikings defence for what would have been a 75-yard touchdown, however, he dropped the pass with Rodgers looking visibly disappointed.

Watson has only hauled in six catches for 51 yards, but did score a touchdown in last weekend's win over the New England Patriots on a 15-yard run.
