Aaron Rodgers Shares Why He's Excited for First Season With Steelers

Heading into what likely will be his final NFL season, Aaron Rodgers is excited to get a fresh start with the Pittsburgh Steelers this year. After spending the majority of his career with the Green Bay Packers followed by two rocky seasons with the New York Jets marred by an Achilles injury, Rodgers is starting anew in Pittsburgh.

While competing at the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, Rodgers expressed that he's excited for this new opportunity, and the chance to play for a historic franchise in the Steelers and under coach Mike Tomlin.

"I just like the newness of it all," Rodgers told NBC Sports. "I'm excited about being in such a great franchise with a Hall of Fame head coach. I've enjoyed getting to know Arthur Smith, our [offensive] coordinator. ... It's fun. It's a good quarterback room, it's good leadership in the locker room, great fanbase. I'm just excited to get back out there and finish it the right way."

In joining the Steelers, Rodgers gets the opportunity to play for a consistent playoff team, and ideally, lead them to their first playoff win in nearly a decade. Under Tomlin, the Steelers have consistently floated good rosters and never suffered a losing season, but are still looking to get back to the Super Bowl for the first time since they lost to Rodgers and the Packers in 2011. Rodgers has also not been back to the Super Bowl since winning his lone championship, but will get one last opportunity to try to return with the Steel City.

Rodgers will officially make his Steelers debut on Sep. 7, when Pittsburgh opens up the season on the road against the Jets.
