Aaron Rodgers refutes Mark Murphy detail in B/R story: ‘It is 100 percent, patently false’

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers strongly refuted a story from Bleacher Report that claimed knowledge of a controversial phone call Rodgers had with team president Mark Murphy before the hiring of new coach Matt LaFleur.

In an interview with ESPN Milwaukee, Rodgers labeled the specific story as “100 percent, patently false” and told his own version of events, claiming the call with Murphy was nothing but productive. He slammed most of the reporting done in the article but made a specific point to refute what was said during his conversation with Murphy.

Rodgers explained the entire timeline of events, stating he talked with both GM Brian Gutekunst and LaFleur while on the golf course in Arizona before later speaking with Murphy, and nothing negative came out of the talk.

“We had a great conversation,” said Rodgers.

Last week’s story at Bleacher Report dramatized the call, claiming Murphy gave stern instructions to Rodgers during a phone call right before LaFleur was hired. “Don’t be the problem,” is how Murphy was quoted in the conversation. It was arguably the most important detail included in the article, which attempted to provide a detailed description of the Rodgers and Mike McCarthy timeline with the Packers.

Rodgers, who is back in Green Bay for the start of the team’s offseason workout program, vehemently denied much of the Bleacher Report story.

We’ll have more from Rodgers’ interview with ESPN Milwaukee once the entire interview is released. The second half of the interview will air Tuesday morning.
