Aaron Rodgers, Packers congratulate Giannis on winning NBA MVP

Both Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers sent along congratulations to Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Milwaukee Bucks star who won the NBA MVP award on Monday night.

Rodgers, a minority owner of the Bucks and two-time NFL MVP, called Antetokounmpo a “class act” and a “great representation” of the organization in a tweet.

Rodgers won NFL MVP awards after the 2011 and 2014 seasons. He was joined by NL MVP and Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich in 2018 and now by Antetokounmpo, creating a triumvirate of recent MVPs in the state of Wisconsin.

Editor’s note: Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun also won an NL MVP in 2011.

“The Greek Freak” averaged 27.7 points, 12.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists while leading the Bucks to a league-best 60-22 record during the regular season. Milwaukee advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals but was stopped by the eventual NBA champion Toronto Raptors in six games.

The Packers posted a photo of Antetokounmpo in a No. 34 Packers uniform, a gift to him while he attended a game at Lambeau Field in 2018, with a simple “MVP” caption.

Antetokounmpo is the second member of the Bucks franchise to win NBA MVP, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and the third-youngest player to win NBA MVP in the last 40 seasons, per ESPN. He received 78 of a possible 101 first-place votes.
