Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams among 26 not playing in Packers preseason opener

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers and receiver Davante Adams highlight the group of veteran players that won’t participate in the Green Bay Packers’ first preseason game of the 2019 season.

A total of 26 players aren’t playing for the Packers against the Houston Texans.

Rodgers, Adams, left tackle David Bakhtiari, right tackle Bryan Bulaga, center Corey Linsley, tight end Jimmy Graham, right guard Billy Turner, tight end Marcedes Lewis, defensive lineman Kenny Clark, defensive lineman Dean Lowry, outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith, outside linebacker Preston Smith, linebacker Blake Martinez, cornerback Jaire Alexander, cornerback Tramon Williams, safety Josh Jones and safety Adrian Amos are in street clothes and won’t play.

The Packers hosted the Texans for a pair of joint practices on Monday and Tuesday, which is why many of the veterans won’t play Thursday night.

Several other players won’t play due to injuries.

Receiver Trevor Davis (stinger), cornerback Josh Jackson (foot), cornerback Kevin King (hamstring), running back Aaron Jones (hamstring), tight end Jace Sternberger (concussion/jaw), defensive lineman Fadol Brown (foot), running back Jamaal Williams (hamstring), outside linebacker Greg Roberts (core) and safety Ibraheim Campbell (knee) are all out.

DeShone Kizer will start at quarterback.
