Aaron Ramsey rejected Unai Emery advice before playing last match for Arsenal

Unai Emery has claimed Aaron Ramsey rejected his advice before picking up the injury that ended his Arsenal career.

The Wales midfielder has played his last game for Arsenal after agreeing a summer transfer to Juventus .

Ramsey picked up a hamstring injury in the Europa League quarter-final victory over Napoli and will have to watch from the sidelines when the Gunners take on Chelsea in the final in Baku.

Emery insists things could have been different had Ramsey listened to his advice during a hectic fixture schedule.

"Sometimes you cannot play every match with the same players because some players can be a risk for injury," Emery said.

"When he was playing against Napoli, he was injured. The Monday before we played Watford , we won 1-0, and I prefer he didn’t play.

"I spoke with him. 'Aaron, we are playing a lot of matches now. I think you need to rest one match.’

“'No, no, coach, I want to play, I want to play, I want to play, I want play, it is very important for me, it is very important for the team, I want to play.”

“'OK. Play.' And we won. After, Napoli. ‘You OK?’ “Coach, I can, I can, I can.’ And this is the process with him I had.”

Emery also claimed Ramsey was distracted while his future was uncertain and his form dipped as a result.

He added: "I said to him and in the press conference he was a little distracted and really I was thinking his performance is not with the balance and regularity.

"But the last three months he was amazing."
