Aaron Ramsey 'forever grateful' to former Cardiff City teammate Peter Whittingham as Juventus star pays tribute

Aaron Ramsey has paid a heartfelt tribute to former Cardiff City teammate Peter Whittingham who has tragically died at the age of 35.

Whittingham had been on life support at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, following an incident at a Barry pub on March 7.

It's believed he had been out watching the England v Wales Six Nations match near his home in Penarth. He suffered a head injury after a fall.

On Thursday afternoon, the Bluebirds confirmed the tragic news that Whittingham had died.

Fans from around the world have shown their respects to the man who served Cardiff for more than a decade as well as turning out for Aston Villa, Derby, Burnley and most recently Blackburn during his professional career.

Wales and Juventus star Ramsey is the latest to pay tribute to the ex-Cardiff midfielder.

Writing on his official Instagram account, Ramsey said: "I will forever be grateful for you taking me under your wing.

"You were one of the most technical and gifted players I've played with and that left foot of yours was like a wand.

"I’m proud to have played alongside you and will always remember the young vs old games and you just running the show.

"My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. Rest in peace Whitts."

Whittingham and Ramsey played together for Cardiff on numerous occasions.

Wales ace Ramsey replaced Whittingham in the 61st minute of Cardiff's 1-0 FA Cup final defeat to Portsmouth at Wembley in 2008.
