Aaron Ramsey details reasons behind leaving Arsenal to join Juventus

Aaron Ramsey has admitted he could not turn down the chance to join Juventus last summer and opted to leave Arsenal to get out of his "comfort zone".

The Welsh midfielder had been with Arsenal 11 years after signing from Cardiff in 2008, and was a key figure in The Gunners' dressing room.

But following a contract standoff with the club, Ramsey decided against penning fresh terms, instead moving to Juve on a free.

Ramsey broke down in tears at his final home match as an Arsenal player, but insisted the opportunity was too good to refuse.

He told Foot Truck : "Juventus is a massive club, one of the top teams around in the world so when they come calling for you it’s hard for you to turn them down.

"I was in a position where I was at a club for a very long time and I fancied a change to get out of my comfort zone to learn a new language, hopefully very slowly."

Juventus had won eight successive Serie A crowns when Ramsey completed his switch, while Arsenal had struggled to mount a serious title challenge during his time at The Emirates.

The Italian side also have ambitions to win the Champions League, having reached the final twice in the last five seasons, while Arsenal have not competed in the competition since 2017.

Quizzed further on his decision to turn his back on England, Ramsey added: "Again to test myself in a different league and all the cup competitions we’re still in.

"We’re a top team and hopefully we can go far in many things and win many trophies and titles here.

"When you come here you get the feeling of how important it is to win.

"When you change the club you arrive at some point in your career where you just want to win trophies.

"It’s good being part of a young project of hopes for the future."
