Aaron Ramsey beats Arsenal team-mate Aubameyang to Premier League goal of the month for October

Aaron Ramsey had edged out Arsenal team-mate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to win the Premier League goal of the month award for October.

Ramsey scored the third goal in Arsenal's 5-1 demolition of Fulham at Craven Cottage on 7 October, turning the ball home with a superb backheel to finish a fine counter-attack from Unai Emery's men.

The Welsh midfielder faced stiff competition for the award from within his own team, with Aubameyang - who set up Ramsey's goal - also scoring an impressive counter-attack goal against Leicester City to earn a nomination.

The award was voted for by a combination of a panel of experts and the public, and beat efforts from Ricardo Pereira, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Andre Schurrle, Roberto Pereyra, Riyad Mahrez and Anthony Martial.

Ramsey said of the goal: 'Auba' crossed the ball and it was slightly behind me so I had to try and adjust and that was the thing that came into my mind first, to try and flick it back towards goal. Thankfully, it went in.

"I think we’ve been renowned for scoring some really good goals as a team and that was just another example.

"I was delighted to be a part of it and finish it off and it’s definitely right up there [with my best goals].

"It was a brilliant ball in because we were 2-1 up at the time and it was a difficult game where Fulham were definitely coming back into it, so we needed that other goal to settle us back down and make the game more comfortable.

"I’m glad I had that impact."

Ramsey is set to leave Arsenal on a free transfer next summer after the club withdrew their contract offer for the midfielder.
