Aaron Ramsey admission highlights what changed for Mesut Ozil at Arsenal

Mikel Arteta has only been Arsenal manager/first-team coach for a little over a year, but so much has changed already.

Arguably the biggest difference compared to Arsene Wenger's over two-decade reign is the treatment of certain players - in particular Mesut Ozil.

The attacking midfielder appears to be on the verge of leaving Arsenal, as football.london understands the 32-year-old is set to hold talks with his agent to make a decision on his next club amid links to Fenerbahce and DC United.

This represents somewhat of a u-turn as Ozil's agent has previously stated that the former Germany international would leave when his contract expires at the end of the season.

It's been a frustrating time for Ozil as his last appearance for the Gunners was the 1-0 win over West Ham United last March. He did not feature after lockdown as the side went on to win the FA Cup.

Not included in Arteta's Premier League or Europa League squads this season, the writing has been on the wall regarding the playmaker's future at the Emirates Stadium for some time now.

And the Spaniard's treatment of Ozil is a stark contrast to what it was like under Wenger.

Aaron Ramsey, now at Juventus, has previously revealed that the ex-Gunners manager often indulged Ozil especially when it came to extra days off.

"Probably Mesut [Ozil]," Ramsey told the official Arsenal YouTube channel in 2016, when asked to name which of his teammates was the 'teacher's pet'.

"He gets a few extra days off than the rest of us.

"He's always in the boss' [Arsene Wenger] room asking for something or whatever and he seems to get it."

Interestingly, Arteta has recently given Ozil some time off.

"He has been training with us, but he had some days because we decided to give him some days for something personal, but he has been training with us all the time," Arteta told reporters.

However, that may have been to sort out his future rather than to indulge him like Wenger.
