Aaron Ramsdale 'tells friends' when he's going to replace Bernd Leno as Arsenal's No.1

Aaron Ramsdale could already dislodge Bernd Leno as Arsenal's first-choice goalkeeper less than three weeks after putting pen to paper on a deal with the Gunners.

Should Ramsdale become Mikel Arteta's number one, it will be welcome news for his former side Sheffield United as the Blades inserted add-ons in his deal based on the number of appearances he makes for Arsenal.

According to a report from The Sun, the 23-year-old has told close friends he thinks Arteta will turn to him for Saturday’s match against Norwich City following Leno’s performance in the recent 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City.

Inside sources have claimed that some of the clauses inserted into his Arsenal deal by Sheffield United could see the Blades receive even more cash from the Gunners, despite the transfer fee alone raising some eyebrows.

Arsenal parted ways with just under £25m plus the add-ons to lure Ramsdale to the Emirates.

It is thought that Arteta, along with Gunners technical director Edu, view Ramsdale as the club's long-term number one with current first choice Leno regularly touted with a move away in recent weeks.

The Germany international has entered the final 12 months of his current contract with little talk over extending his stay.

Leno has denied he is simply seeing out the remainder of his contract, though Inter Milan are reportedly keen on recruiting him for free at the end of the season.

A report from football.london states that Leno is "unwilling" to sign a contract extension at the club given the turmoil they currently find themselves in.

Arsenal sit bottom of the Premier League after three games played, with zero points and a goal difference of minus nine.

Leno has played every minute of the disastrous league campaign in which the Gunners have been defeated by newly promoted Brentford, as well as losses to European champions Chelsea and league champions Man City.

Should Arteta play Ramsdale over Leno for the rest of the season? Have your say here.

Ramsdale, however, has made just one appearance, coming in the recent 6-0 away victory over West Bromwich Albion in the Carabao Cup - Arsenal's only clean sheet of the season thus far.

The Gunners are rumoured to be keeping tabs on Ajax 'keeper Andre Onana, currently suspended following a drugs ban, to offer Ramsdale competition for his place when Leno eventually departs.
