Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale slammed the “inconsistency” in the refereeing during his side’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s side strengthened their position at the top of the Premier League as they opened up an 11-point lead with their 11th consecutive victory.
They left it late to grab all three points at the Emirates Stadium though, with Rodri striking in stoppage time to put City ahead, while the game had more than its fair share of incidents.
City’s equaliser proved to be the main talking point of the game, with Bernardo Silva’s calls for a penalty initially being waved away after he was brought down by Granit Xhaka.
Referee Stuart Attwell though was instructed by VAR to take another look at the incident, with the official then pointing to the spot after consulting the pitch-side monitor.
Riyad Mahrez stepped up and brought the visitors level, with Arsenal being reduced to ten men shortly after when Gabriel picked up a second booking, before Rodri grabbed all three points late on.
The hosts though were left aggrieved with the decision to award City the penalty that brought them back into the game, particularly after being denied a penalty themselves in the first half.
The Gunners felt they should have been awarded a spot-kick when Martin Odegaard was brought down by Ederson, but the calls were waved away and, unlike the second-half penalty for City, Attwell wasn’t instructed to take a second viewing.
And Ramsdale aired his frustrations at the decisions made when speaking to talkSPORT after the game.
“That’s the word, inconsistency,” Ramsdale said. “He gets told to go and see the screen for one and not the other.
“He could have quite easily gone to the screen for Martin’s and said ‘no penalty’ but both times him and the linesman have said ‘no penalty’.
“The linesman on our one which they got given, he said he didn’t think it was a foul but got told to go and see the screen.
“If they go and see the screen and decide one is and one isn’t, that’s fair enough, he’s gone and seen it, but it’s the fact that he’s been told to go and see one and not ours that’s the important feeling.
“We’re feeling deflated because of the inconsistency.”
