Aaron Ramsdale sends message to Manchester United's Dean Henderson after England blow

Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has issued a classy message to Manchester United stopper Dean Henderson following his England heartbreak.

The 24-year-old was forced to withdraw from Gareth Southgate's England squad at the European Championship with a hip injury, having been on the bench for the Three Lions' 1-0 triumph against Croatia on Sunday.

Henderson will now return to United for further assessment and rehabilitation ahead of the 2021/22 season and his spot in the squad has been taken by Ramsdale.

Originally a member of Southgate's 33-man squad prior to the start of the tournament, Ramsdale was among the seven names to be omitted when the squad was reduced to 26.

It is an occasion to celebrate for Ramsdale, with the 23-year-old joining England's camp after he passes COVID protocols but he took the time to send best wishes to Henderson.

"While I’m delighted to be joining back up with England, my immediate thoughts are with Deano as I know how much it meant to him to be involved," he posted on Instagram.

"I have now been given the honour and to be involved in a major tournament is what dreams are made of. This is a special moment for me and my family."

UEFA's Euro 2020 rules allow for teams to replace goalkeepers on medical grounds throughout the tournament.

England's next clash is against Scotland on Friday, where victory will secure a spot in the knockout stages of the competition with a game to spare.

The Three Lions' final group game comes against the Czech Republic and winning the group would see England play their round of 16 game at Wembley.
