Aaron Ramsdale’s message to Arsenal fans after £24million transfer from Sheffield United

Aaron Ramsdale became Arsenal’s fifth summer signing on Friday evening, following the completion of his £24million transfer from Sheffield United.

football.london understands that the fee could rise to as much as £30million in potential add-ons.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper has signed a four-year deal at the Emirates, with the option to extend for a further year.

He comes in as Arsenal’s number two, but as such a young signing in his position, he’ll be looking to rival Bernd Leno for the No.1 shirt, and has even promised to provide concrete, healthy competition for the German shot stopper.

In addition to that promise, he wants to build a rapport with the Arsenal fans, as he has done at his previous clubs.

Speaking in his first interview as an Arsenal player to the club’s official website, Ramsdale said: “I’ve said for a long time now, the players get to score a goal and celebrate with each other and I’m left on my own.

“So, when we score a goal with the team, my teammates are the fans at the time so I celebrate it as if I’ve scored it or assisted it.

“It’s been a great time over the last three years, winning Player of the Year’s and things, but I would’ve preferred not to win anything and stayed in the league with the teams.

“But I’m looking forward to whenever I get the chance to play in front of the fans to have that connection with them because it’s something I do thrive off.”

Ramsdale is likely to be on the bench for Sunday’s game at the Emirates against Chelsea and therefore is expected to make his Gunners debut in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday when Arsenal travel to West Brom.
