Aaron Martin says Hamilton should have beaten Aberdeen amid season 'turning point'

Aaron Martin admits the Accies players were left disappointed not to come away with all three points in their draw with Aberdeen.

But the defender hopes ending a run of five straight defeats can be the turning point in what has been a nightmare season so far.

Hamilton still prop up the Premiership table, but their point against the Dons, courtesy of Marios Ogkmpoe's equaliser, has closed the gap on nearest rivals St Mirren to three points, albeit they have played two games more.

Martin felt they should have taken more from the game after David Moyo's last-gasp effort was superbly saved by Dons goalkeeper Joe Lewis and he insists the display gives them plenty to build on ahead of a hectic December.

It all kicks-off next Saturday at home to Kilmarnock, with clashes against Hibs, Ross County, Livingston, Celtic and St Johnstone to follow.

And Martin, who joined Accies earlier this month from Exeter City, said: "We were disappointed, coming in after the game.

"We genuinely felt like we could have won that - and probably should have won it.

"It was an unreal save to be fair.

"We've put in a decent performance. We've shown we can defend well, we can attack well and we had quite a few chances.

"Big Mario [Ogkmpoe] was phenomenal up top as well, so we just need to keep at it.

"We need to get ourselves out of this.

"The next two games are really important. If we can play like we did here and give more - I think there is still more to give - so if we can build on that I think we should be okay.

"These are the games where we've got to pick up points and if we can give even better than we did here - and I genuinely think we can, there's a lot more this team can do - especially in the next two home games, it will put us in a really nice position.

"It gives us something to build on now. I think we played really well on Saturday as well [in a 2-1 defeat to Dundee United] and we were unlucky with that, so this was a real bonus for us.

"We've been working really hard so it seems to be starting to pay off now."

Hamilton's vital point was their first since a 1-1 draw with Dundee United on September 26.

However, they are still searching for their first win since their 2-1 win away to Livingston on September 12.The display against the Dons gives Martin belief it won't be too long before the points start flowing.

He added: "Everyone is feeling super positive now and keep moving forward.

"Everybody is willing to learn and the young boys are willing to listen as well, which makes everything a lot easier.

"We know we are in a bit of a fight at the moment and everyone has just got to stick together, always be positive and we've just got to keep doing it."
