Aaron Hickey transfer update as Bologna sporting director lays out Serie A club's plans for Hearts defender

Bologna sporting director Walter Sabatini says the club are doing “everything they can” to land Aaron Hickey from Hearts.

And he believes the fact that they’ve been competing with Bayern Munich for the teenager’s services means they’re right to chase the Tynecastle teen.

The Emillia-Romagna-based outfit had a bid rejected by Hearts last week, although are expected to return with an improved offer.

Robbie Neilson thinks a deal could be done this week and just hopes the left back plays first team football wherever he ends up.

His destination looks increasingly likely to be the Stadio Renato Daall’Ara despite interest from German giants and Champions League winners Bayern.

A deal to take Hickey to Bavaria is understood to be dead, although the player did visit the German champs after being given the guided tour by Bologna as well.

And it seems Sabatini’s determination to land the hot prospect has paid off, although he did explain that initially, Hickey would act as cover for first choice left back Mitchell Dijs.

“We’re doing everything we can to get him,” he said.

“He’s a lad who knows how to play, he’s very intelligent tactically and with us he’d be backup to (Mitchell) Dijks.

“Do Bayern want him too? Wanting to become great, we choose great competitors.”
