Aaron Hickey's Hearts departure has moved a step closer after a European club "made formal contact" with the Tynecastle club.

BBC Scotland report that the an interested party has been in touch over a potential transfer for the 18-year-old full-back.

Serie A side Bologna, Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Scottish champions Celtic have also reportedly been keen on signing Hickey in recent weeks.

The defender has even visited Bologna and Bayern as the clubs battle to secure his signature.

Hearts chairman Ann Budge told the BBC: "I have now had one formal approach from a European club.

"I've made it clear to Aaron and his agent I don't want him to go but if that is what the future holds for him then so be it. I think he is going to want to go somewhere."
