Aaron Hickey to Milan escalates as Paolo Maldini can't hide angst over left back's derby horror show

Frustrated Paolo Maldini couldn't mask his frustration as he watched Milan struggler Fode Ballo-Toure suffer a derby nightmare at left-back against Inter.

The Serie A title challengers were ruing the absence of France international Theo Hernandez in the stalemate between the sides at the San Siro.

But it could have been worse for the Rossonerri as their back-up was all over the shop and gave away a penalty after being turned inside-out by Matteo Darmian.

Lautaro Martinez would miss the resulting spot kick but that wouldn't save Ballo-Toure who was hooked at the break as right-back Pierre Kalulu was asked to fill in an unfamiliar position.

Hernandez is expected to be coveted by Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid next summer and uncertainty over the position is set to lead to fresh speculation about Aaron Hickey.

The 19-year-old Scot is already a bonafide star in Serie A due to his head-turning displays with Bologna and on the radar of Milan with sporting director Maldini himself keeping tabs on him.

Former Hearts star Hickey was excellent in Sunday's 2-1 win away to Sampdoria that lifts Sinisa Mihajlovic's up into ninth in the table.

Milan could consider a January bid but more likely they will look to position themselves as the leading option for a player who is admired across the continent.
