Aaron Hickey set for Bologna return as ex Hearts star back in training after shoulder surgery

Ex Hearts star Aaron Hickey is back in training with Bologna as he gets set to make his comeback from a shoulder injury.

The 19-year-old suffered a disappointing end to last season after his move from Hearts, seeing red against Sassuolo before a shoulder problem ended his season three months early.

It also ruined any hopes he had of making a late push for the Scotland squad ahead of Euro 2020.

But despite the way it ended, he remains a fans' favourite at Bologna, and their UK Twitter account had some excellent news as they shared a snap of him getting down to business at training.

Captioning the pic 'look who's back' with the obligatory eyes emoji, they showed the youngster in full swing with the ball at his feet.

And they followed it up with a reply to a Hearts fan as the club described him as 'Scotland's finest'.

Hickey has made 12 appearances in total for Bologna and has proved himself capable of competing in the Italian top flight despite his tender years.

The Serie A season kicks off this weekend with Bologna facing Salernitana at home, and if he can get himself back into the team, then a first Scotland in September doesn't look outwith the realms of possibility.

Steve Clarke's team face Denmark, Moldova and Austria in a decisive World Cup qualifying triple header.
