Aaron Hickey's Hearts to Bologna transfer could happen today with first-team football on offer in Serie A

Aaron Hickey’s move from Hearts to Bologna could be completed today.

Sky Italia are reporting that the 18-year-old’s switch to Serie A is imminent after manager Robbie Neilson said earlier this week that he expected things to start moving.

It’s thought that Il Rossoblu have offered in the region of £1.8million for the left back, 30 per cent of which will go to Scottish Premiership champions Celtic as part of the agreement that saw Hickey return to Tynecastle after four years in the Parkhead club’s academy.

Bologna sporting director Walter Sabatini said the club were doing all they could do get a deal over the line.

And while Hickey won’t arrive as first choice left back with Mitchell Dijks already in the squad, he has been assured he’ll be involved in Sinia Mihajlovic’s team during the 2020/21 season.

Bayern Munich were also keen on Hickey, and he was flown over to Bavaria to look around and talk with the German giants.

But their plan to initially play him in their Under 23 squad was less appealing than the offer from Italy, which would allow Hickey to keep up his rapid development with at least some first team football.
