Aaron Hickey injury blow as Scotland youngster sees Bologna season ended by shoulder issue

Former Hearts full-back Aaron Hickey has seen his season ended by injury, putting paid to any faint hopes of a run for the Euro 2020 squad.

The 18-year-old joined Serie A side Bologna in the summer, and despite teething problems has impressed in his first season in Italy.

However, the Scotland Under-17 international hasn't played since a red card against Sassuolo in February.

First he had to isolate after being diagnosed with coronavirus and, after returning to the bench for recent matches, it appears his season is over.

Hickey suffered a shoulder injury in training last week and Sky Italia reports that it will require surgery.

It's thought the Hearts youth product has suffered a partial dislocation, and Bologna are taking no risks with one of their top youth products.

Hickey hasn't been involved in the senior Scotland team, with Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney and Greg Taylor all in the squad as left-back options.

The youngster is capable of playing on the right and may have harboured faint hopes of a late call for Euro 2020 but that appears to be ruled out.
