Aaron Hickey completes Bologna move as Hearts wish teenager 'every success' in Serie A

Aaron Hickey has completed his move from Hearts to Serie A side Bologna, the Tynecastle club have confirmed.

The teenager turned down a lucrative move to European champions Bayern Munich in search of first team football at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara and joins the club for an undisclosed fee.

The 18-year-old was the subject of a transfer tug-of-war with over the summer with Bologna, Bayern, Celtic and a host of English sides vying for his signature.

But I Rossoblù won the race earlier this month with Hickey jetting out to complete the transfer - which was delayed until he passed the requisite COVID-19 screening protocol needed after arriving in Italy.

The full back, who scored once in 32 appearances for the Jambos, could make his debut against Parma on Monday.

A statement on the Hearts website read: "Aaron Hickey has completed a permanent transfer to Bologna.

"The 18-year-old makes the move to the Serie A side for an undisclosed fee.

"Left-back Aaron rose to prominence when he earned a starting berth in the 2019 Scottish Cup Final, aged only 16.

"He went on to make a total of 32 appearances in a maroon shirt and scored one goal, which was the winner in a 2-1 victory against Hibs at Easter Road in September 2019.

"The club wishes Aaron every success with the next chapter of his career."
