Aaron Hickey admits Celtic signing attempt but rising Serie A star dismisses Manchester City link

Former Hearts defender Aaron Hickey has confirmed Celtic were one of a clutch of clubs after his signature in the summer.

The left-back was linked with a move back to Parkhead, from where he joined the Jambos in his formative years, before eventually settling on "family club" Bologna.

That has proved to be a wise move as an injury to the Serie A side's first choice Mitchell Dijks has resulted in an unexpected glut of game time.

Bayern Munich were also interested in the Scots teenager, but a link to Manchester City was dismissed by Hickey in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport in his new homeland.

That's despite former manager Craig Levein and chairman Ann Budge travelling to meet with the Etihad club in January - but Hickey has revealed the rumours of a return to the Hoops were true.

He said: "Bayern are a great club, but Bologna is massive, they are of a high level, I’m sure I have chosen a big club.

"The thing that most convinced me, when I came here to visit some time ago, is the family atmosphere I felt immediately. I immediately felt a good feeling.

"Did Manchester City also look for me? I would say no. Celtic? Yes."
