Aaron Henry withdraws from NBA Draft to return to Michigan State for junior season

Michigan State Basketball had two players declare for the NBA Draft while still keeping their college eligibility, and one of those players withdrew that draft consideration on Sunday. While fans will still have to await Xavier Tillman’s decision, Aaron Henry told ESPN on Sunday that he will be returning to MSU for his junior season.

From ESPN:

“This decision was based off wanting to maximize my opportunity to be coached by the best coach in the game in Tom Izzo and reach my dreams and full potential,” Henry told ESPN on Sunday. “I wanted to put myself in the best situation possible and not rush anything to make sure I start my career on the right foot. This was a tough decision, but year three will be the year.”

Henry checks a lot of boxes in terms of NBA talent with his athleticism, defensive ability, and shooting stroke, but I think some would say he underperformed a little last year in what was ultimately an inconsistent season. Henry averaged 10 points per game on 34.4% shooting from three. With the absence of Cassius Winston on the Spartans this year, Henry will likely have a featured role in the offense and should have every opportunity to make a strong impression on NBA scouts.
