Aaron Henry, a 3-star guard/forward out of Indianapolis, was never expected to be a star. Now, heading into his sophomore season, he is already being whispered about as a dark horse NBA Draft candidate. For the past week, he has put a show on at the Moneyball Pro-Am in Dimondale, Michigan.
The hype might sound surprising if you only paid attention to Henry’s regular season stats. He only averaged 6.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game last season, starting in the last 22 out of 23 games. But after going viral from being berated by Coach Tom Izzo on the sideline in the NCAA Tournament, Henry took that criticism and press in stride and ended up breaking out in March Madness. He scored a career-high 20 points against LSU in the Sweet Sixteen, proving the incident with Izzo did nothing to his confidence.
All I’ve seen for the past week on Twitter is people in awe of his explosiveness and playmaking on display at the Pro-Am. Here is a video of him catching a lob from Julius Marble for a nice dunk:
In a game against Cassius Winston (and Khy Winston), Henry was unstoppable, notching 28 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocked shots. It got to the point where the Winston brothers tackled him to try and stop him:
The future looks bright for Aaron Henry, who will be trying to help the Spartans win a national championship this year.
