Aaron Greene roars 'Bring on Dundalk' after firing Shamrock Rovers into FAI Cup final

Sharp shooter Aaron Greene fired Shamrock Rovers into the FAI Cup final last night and roared: “Bring on Dundalk”.

Greene said: “That’s 100% our preferred draw. I’m not being rude saying that but we want it.

“They won the league when we thought we could close the gap on them but some of our games against Bohs and Dundalk really cost us this year.

“So definitely, we want Dundalk in the final.”

Hoops striker Greene scored 10 minutes from time to seal a 2-0 win over arch rivals Bohemians that was kick-started by Graham Burke’s early opener.

Trouble erupted in the stands - particularly the home end - and riot police and Garda dogs were required to restore order during and after the game.

But cock-a-hoop Greene only has his sights fixed on the Aviva Stadium showpiece game on November 3.

Rovers will face either Sligo Rovers or treble chasing Dundalk, who beat Rovers in Oriel Park on Monday to win the league title.

Greene said: “Dundalk won the league in front of our face the other night so this was a great test of character for us to come here to Dalymount and win.

“It is a while since we’ve done that and there’s no tougher place for us to come. But I think we played really well and I’m delighted.

“But we haven’t won anything yet. We’ve beat Bohs twice but that’s gone now and we have to finish this. Everyone will be fighting for places for the final “

Rovers are the record 24-time winners of the FAI Cup but they haven’t lifted the famous trophy since 1987.

Greene added: “Great teams are only spoken about if you win something. People are giving us a lot of talk but we haven’t won anything so we need to go and win this.

“I hope we get Dundalk so we can avenge the other night. It’s great for us that we’re there now and we can watch the other semi-final on Sunday.”
